What is CCL?

What is Career Connected Learning (CCL)?

Oregon Department of Education defines Career Connected Learning (CCL) as a framework of career awareness, exploration, preparation and training. Career learning develops over the course of one’s lifetime. To support this process, CCL ensures purposeful instruction and engages diverse communities in building collaborative, community-driven learning. CCL connects the interests, aptitudes, education and goals of every Oregon youth to their future.

What are CCL Core Values?

The CCL Mission rests on three core values: engaging families, empowering students and building community. This means structuring CCL learning to be active, engaging, project-based, culturally responsive, relevant, exploratory and adaptable. CCL supports educators and partners by providing resources such as curriculum, internship frameworks, authentic hands-on experiences and career exploration opportunities in all regions of the state. CCL develops relationships with community partners and uses data-driven decision-making to determine the skills that Oregon’s employers need our young people to develop in order to be successful in their future careers.

What is CCL's commitment to equity and inclusion?

At Career Connected Learning, we are committed to offering rich CCL experiences for all learners regardless of geography or access to resources. It is the vision of CCL to actively identify and remove any inequitable barriers that may prevent students from having access to formative experiences. To carry out this vision, CCL has hired a CCL/CTE Tribal Liaison/Coordinator to join ODE as part of the learning navigator network. Additionally, CCL provides materials and resources in multiple languages reflecting the people living in Oregon and their preferred method of communication. We believe that language should not be a barrier to engagement. Finally, we encourage programs participating in CCL enrichment activities to invite all students to participate, regardless of grades and attendance issues.

How is CCL different from Career and Technical Education (CTE)?

Think of CCL as the center of an interconnected web, featuring:

  • Pre-K-12 education
  • Dual credit
  • STE(A)M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math)
  • Career and Technical Education (CTE)
  • Post-secondary education
  • The statewide career navigator network
  • Career and college readiness
  • Community and industry partners
